WWE Holding Tryouts

WWE.com announced today that Florida Championship Wrestling, the official developmental territory of WWE, is holding a four-day talent evaluation clinic March 4-7 in Tampa, Florida.

NXT season three contestant AJ Lee and Raw Superstar Darren Young are the most notable wrestlers to land contracts with WWE via FCW’s talent evaluation clinic. Both signed developmental contracts immediately following a tryout in May 2009.

NXT 3 Rookie AJ Lee defeated fellow Rookie Naomi Knight at last night’s tapings to become the new FCW Divas Champion. The match will air in January and saw AJ play a heel.

WWE Diva Crowned Queen of FCW

Rosa Mendes beat AJ on Sunday’s episode of FCW Wrestling to become the new Queen of FCW. The New Jersey native had held the crown since February.

The SmackDown Diva denied AJ’s finishing maneuver attempt, the Octopus hold, and moments later garnered the three count. After the match, Mendes said it was her dream to become the Queen of FCW and continued rambling in Spanish.

In a trivia note, Mendes has yet to win a singles match on WWE television since joining the main roster two years ago.

Update On NXT Rookies

In terms of Kaitlyn becoming the NXT winner last night, the fan balloting was said to have played a huge part in the overall decision. Of the other NXT Divas, it is expected that both Naomi and AJ will make the main WWE roster.

AJ and Primo are set to be a duo on RAW and Kaitlyn will likely end up on SmackDown to continue her program with Vickie Guerrero.

There’s no word on the futures of Maxine and Akansa and they are both expected to continue working in FCW. There has been talk of using Aksana in some sort of comedy role on RAW, but nothing beyond that.

Jamie Keyes was brought in last night after her release following elimination, and there was a lot of people surprised to see her. Other women following their eliminations were on the road every week for both RAW and SmackDown shows.

Fame Indy star and veteran wrestler Christie Ricci posted the following on her Facebook in regards to last night’s episode of NXT.

“I just saw a match on NXT. Obviously these girls are not trained! This girl, “AJ” went from a total dead sell to getting up, flipping her hair and beating the crap out of a dude! BRILLIANT! I have a good idea, WWE! Why don’t you get Orton to sh*t in a bag, then through it in he ring… atleast that would be interesting and more re…alistic. Goldust w/Aksana & Gail Kim vs Primo w/AJ & Jillian

Two of the Rookie Divas from WWE NXT season three got a close-up view of WWE action tonight as Aksana and A.J. were at ringside during this wild bout. The WWE hopefuls may have had a hard time keeping up with the action, though, as the combatants in this match kept a furious pace. But just when it looked like Jillian & Primo were going to steal one, Goldust hit the Puerto Rican Superstar with a twisting suplex to score the win for his squad.

Backstage News on NXT Diva Rookie AJ Lee

Regarding NXT Rookie Diva AJ Lee, WWE’s creative department discussed changing the 23-year-old’s ring name due to a rival promotion’s wrestler sharing the same first name, but ultimately felt it was no concern.

WWE officials originally intended to promote Lee over the summer to the SmackDown brand as a new babyface Diva, replacing released performer Mickie James as ‘the cute small girl’. A vignette featuring Lee aired before the live crowd at the July 6th Friday Night SmackDown television taping om Atlanta, Georgia but cut from the Television broadcast because they were introducing Alberto Del Rio via vignettes and felt that other talent shouldn’t be introduced simultaneously.

Lee, who’s real name is believed to be April Jeanette, started wrestling independently in the Northeast in 2007, two years after graduating from high school. While plying her trade on the indy circuit, Lee attended New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts in New York City, majoring in Film and Television production. With just over 20 matches under her belt, she attended WWE’s May 2009 talent evaluation clinic and nabbed a developmental deal — the first female with prior wrestling experience to be signed to a contract in over two years.

Lee debuted in Florida Championship Wrestling in August 2009 and has been among the most prominently featured performers in the developmental promotion since then. She currently reigns as the Queen of FCW.

Of the six NXT season three contestants, Lee is the only contestant with prior WWE wrestling experience, having just competed last week at a SmackDown live event in Odessa, Texas. She is regarded as ‘far and away’ the best in-ring performer of the cast and thus considered the favorite entering the competition.

New WWE Diva Gets a Match

WWE developmental Diva AJ Lee wrestled against Women’s Champion Layla at the SmackDown live event in Odessa, Texas this past Sunday. Lee wrestled as the babyface and was billed from Odessa, likely to help with her face character. Layla cut a promo on Lee before the match and won with her finisher. WWE was planning to begin debut promos for Lee on SmackDown a few weeks back but they still haven’t aired.
