TLC: Divas Made History

Blondes do have more fun … at least when it comes to a Tables Match. 

Divas Champion Natalya & Beth Phoenix defeated Michelle McCool & Layla in the first-ever Divas Tag Team Tables Match at WWE TLC. The tension among these pairs of best friends erupted in an intense battle, as the third-generation Diva & The Glamazon proved their bond is the strongest. Despite Lay-Cool’s efforts to level the Divas Champion with a double superplex, Natalya fought them both off and tossed them through a table.

Moments after Natalya claimed the Divas Championship at Survivor Series, her friend, Beth Phoenix, returned, surprising the WWE Universe and Lay-Cool. The Glamazon proved to SmackDown’s resident “Mean Girls” that she’s back and poised to make an impact in the Divas division alongside her trusty pal, Natalya.

However, Michelle McCool made a comeback for her squad, winning the Diva Battle Royal on Raw, securing the 2010 Slammy Award for Diva of the Year for herself and Layla. This earned the devious duo a spot in the historic Divas Tag Team Table Match against the Divas Champion & The Glamazon.

But no Lay-Cool Slammy Award could stop Natalya from plunging both Michelle & Layla through a table. It was a moment that will live in infamy in Divas history; a moment truly proving that a twosome like Divas Champion Natalya & The Glamazon are unstoppable together, even when it comes to the once-dominant Lay-Cool.

Tiffany Talks on Michelle McCool

Former WWE Diva Taryn “Tiffany” Terrell was asked on Twitter this weekend if she thinks she will ever return to WWE. Tiffany replied: 

“if I have to sleep with people in power to keep or continue progressing in my job, I’d rather be poor.”

This led to speculation that she was referring to WWE Diva Michelle McCool, who is married to The Undertaker. Tiffany responded to those comments with the following:

“No my tweet was not about michelle. She gained her success and talent on her own, it honestly is mean that anyone would accuse her otherwise. If you are not there or in the locker room with her, its completely unfair to say that about her. She is talented and creative and patient and I have a ton of respect for her.”

Unified Divas Championship Match

Layla w/ Michelle McCool vs Natalya

Thanks to a little help from her “BFF”Michelle McCool, Layla successfully defended the Divas Championship in her bout with Natalya at WWE Bragging Rights, ensuring that the butterfly-emblazoned title will remain in the possession of the self-professed “Co-Divas Champions,” Lay-Cool, for the foreseeable future. 

While either member of Lay-Cool can defend the Divas Championship, as stipulated by SmackDown’s Official Consultant Vickie Guerrero, it was decided just two days before this collision that Layla would be the one to battle Natalya at WWE Bragging Rights. However, that didn’t prevent Michelle from getting involved in the action, nailing Natalya with a kick to the face when the referee was distracted.

WWE’s Mean Girls last collided with Natalya on the pay-per-view stage at Hell in a Cell, where Layla intentionally disqualified defending champion Michelle, thus preventing the only female graduate of the legendary Hart Dungeon from capturing her first championship in WWE. As was the case during that chaotic confrontation, the fearless and determined Natalya seemed to be a Sharpshooter away from becoming the new Divas Champion, but Lay-Cool’s treachery once again triumphed over the Hart Dynasty Diva’s renowned in-ring ability.

Like numerous WWE Divas before her, Natalya has often found herself on the receiving end of Lay-Cool’s verbal venom. While other competitors might be discouraged by Layla & Michelle’s persistent taunts over the last several weeks, the third-generation competitor has countered their so-called “real talk” with her unmatched athleticism and indomitable fighting spirit.

Outmatched and, as the WWE Universe can attest, outclassed, Lay-Cool resorted to their infamously underhanded tactics to leave the Target Center with their heads held high, their noses in the air and the Divas Championship in their grasp. At WWE Bragging Rights, appropriately, the devious duo had plenty to brag about.

Although she has fallen to Lay-Cool once again, Natalya’s quest to become Divas Champion will continue, as will Lay-Cool’s mission to flaunt their “flawlessness” at every turn. Watch Monday Night Raw and Friday Night SmackDown to keep up with these and all of WWE’s sexy, smart and powerful Divas.

Hell in A Cell Results

Just one week later, Natalya outlasted Raw’s top femme fatales, including several former Divas Champions, in a Battle Royal to earn No.1 contendership and an opportunity at the new Unified Divas Championship. 

For Natalya and Michelle, this clash over the Divas Title has brought them full circle. At The Great American Bash in 2008, Michelle defeated Natalya to become the first-ever Divas Champion. But it has been two years since these sexy, smart and powerful women battled for a title, and Natalya has since become a much fiercer competitor than ever before.

The third-generation Diva’s resolve and desire to win the title were put to the ultimate test at Hell in a Cell. Two years after first colliding with Michelle, this time it was Natalya who gained the upper hand and managed to capture her opponent in the Hart family’s patented Sharpshooter.

Mere moments before Michelle could tap out, Layla came to her best friend’s rescue and got her partner intentionally disqualified by throwing her shoe at Natalya in order to salvage the title. Before Layla could escape the ring, Natalya also briefly trapped her in a Sharpshooter after the match. 

Layla's brash decision proved not only that Lay-Cool undoubtedly has each other’s backs, but also that Natalya may be their greatest foil to date.

Michelle McCool Talks About The Diva Title Situtation

WWE.com have an interview with Michelle McCool talking about being the first woman to unify the Women's Championship and Divas Championship. When asked what it means that there is one title now for the divas, she said:

"I think it opens up a lot more opportunities. It's sad that it won't be the Women's Championship we are holding, because there's so much prestige with it. But who knows, Trish Stratus retired with it a few years ago - maybe it'll come back again. It's an absolute honor to be carrying the championship on my shoulder. It's a proud moment."

Rookie Diva Kaitlyn was accidentally bloodied at some point during Tuesday’s episode of NXT. Seeing as it was a taped show, WWE managed to edit around it. Post-match, Michelle McCool delivered a very stiff kick to Kaitlyn’s head, although it is believed that she didn’t cause her to bleed.

With every Diva participating at ringside as a lumberjill for this historic match, Michelle was forced to fight Melina on her own at first. Layla initially refused to assist her best friend after Michelle tricked her two nights earlier on SmackDown. But Friday night’s rift was all a ruse. Layla stepped in to help Michelle when she needed it most, allowing Michelle to pin Melina for the victory. Now, Lay-Cool – the Divas’ division true queens of mean – reign supreme with the Unified Divas Championship.

Before Night of Champions, Michelle held the Women’s Title twice and was the first-ever Divas Champion, holding that title once. She’s the first-ever Diva to claim both. The Women’s Championship is WWE’s oldest, as it was established in 1956 and first held by The Fabulous Moolah for 28 years. The Women’s Title was instated seven years before the WWE Title was formed. Michelle made WWE Divas history by unifying the titles, becoming the first-ever Unified Divas Champion at Night of Champions.

More than a month earlier, Melina made a triumphant return at SummerSlam to claim the Divas Title. But Lay-Cool tormented Melina from the start, challenging her to a Unification Match at Night of Champions. Melina accepted, but under her terms – that all of the Divas act as lumberjills at ringside – making the fight as fair as possible. But the lumberjills weren’t enough for the Latina Lovely to trump the “mean girls.”

Melina’s opponent was determined just two days before Night of Champions by the “flawless” plan of pulling a name out of a hat. The first draw by Kaval – Michelle – earned the right to fight at Night of Champions. Michelle promised to win for herself and her devoted friend. But Layla and the WWE NXT season two winner soon discovered all of the names in that hat read “Michelle.” A shocked Layla vowed that her bestie would stand alone at Night of Champions – a promise that was all a clever ruse.

Thanks to the ever-loyal Layla’s help, Michelle has unified the Divas and Women’s Championship to become to the Unified Divas Champion. Lay-Cool has opened a new chapter in WWE Divas history with a moment that will never be forgotten. Now that’s “real talk.”

[SPOILER] Diva to Face Melina at Night of Champions in Revealed

As our correspondents reported last night in our the WWE Smackdown taping report, Michelle McCool will face Melina in the women’s titles unification match at Sunday’s Night of Champions pay-per-view.

There was a scene backstage during Smackdown where Kaval pulled McCool’s name out of the hat to determine which member of LayCool would face Melina. Kaval revealed that all of the names inside the hat were McCool’s. Layla got upset and told McCool that she’s on her own on Sunday.
